MEDICS' Activities and Results

MEDICS, the European Competence Centre for Biomedical Microdevices, specialises in the application areas of telemedicine, active implants, medical ASICs and biomedical sensors. MEDICSī know-how is based on the close collaboration between the applied R&D organisations Fraunhofer IBMT & CSEM, newcomer i2m Design and the global player Zarlink Semiconductor. This unique combination of expertise enables MEDICS to support customers in the improvement of existing biomedical devices, as well as in the development of completely new and innovative types of biomedical applications.

Over 200 biomedical scientists & engineers

make the Competence Centre a strong partner for companies and other organisations involved in the development of biomedical devices. MEDICS offers a complete portfolio of services from concept evaluation & feasibility studies to design, prototyping, low/medium volume manufacturing & testing. Information and technology consulting services that accompany and support new product developments complete these technical services.

In the past three years, MEDICS has received more than 60 contracts, mainly from small and medium sized enterprises. The following highlights illustrate the successful work of the Biomedical Competence Centre MEDICS:

  • MEDICS' event and customer acquisition activities are spread all over Europe, Latin and Northern America and Asia.

  • Since May 2003, MEDICS is part of the advisory board of the well-known European magazine Medical Device Technology (MDT).
